Peliva

Digital Story-Telling Platform

Pelvia is a digital storytelling platform developed in response to a broad brief to design a community-focused web application. Through primary research, interviews and user-centred design methods, the project identified an opportunity to support women living with chronic pelvic pain by creating a space where education, storytelling and shared experiences could exist alongside practical health resources.

Challenge

The brief required the development of a digital storytelling application, leaving the audience, purpose and communication strategy entirely open. Rather than beginning with a solution, the project started by identifying a community whose experiences were underserved by existing platforms. Research explored how digital storytelling could reduce isolation, improve understanding and foster connection for people navigating chronic pelvic pain.

Research Insight

Interviews, academic literature and persona development consistently highlighted feelings of isolation, delayed diagnosis and fragmented access to reliable information. Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, the project reframed digital storytelling as a way to strengthen community, validation and shared understanding.

Result

Pelvia demonstrates how research-led interaction design can transform complex healthcare experiences into accessible, community-centred digital platforms. By combining storytelling with practical health resources, the project shows how communication design can foster connection, confidence and understanding for underserved communities.

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of allowing research to shape design decisions rather than confirming existing assumptions. Working directly with participants throughout the design process strengthened my understanding of human-centred design and demonstrated how thoughtful interaction design can support both practical needs and emotional wellbeing.
